Installing Csound5

In order to run csound~, you MUST have Csound5 installed.
If you downloaded the file Csound5_OSX_Intel.dmg, skip this step.

  You can download Csound5 from:

  http://sourceforge.net/projects/csound

I recommend using the automatic installers for Csound5 whenever possible. Below
is a list of Csound5 installers that I recommend. Take note of the version
of csound~ that you downloaded, then use this list to download the appropriate
  version of Csound5.

Mac OSX (ppc)

  1) Download and install Csound5.

  2) Download and expand the csound~ archive (tar.gz or zip).

  3) Navigate to either "binaries/MacOSX/MaxMSP 4.5" or
      "binaries/MacOSX/MaxMSP 4.6" sub-directory, depending on your
MaxMSP version. Only 32bit versions are available.

  4) Copy csound~.mxo to your MaxMSP externals folder (typically
      "/Library/Application Support/Cycling '74/externals/").

If you're using MaxMSP 4.6 or later, your MaxMSP externals folder
      will probably be "/Applications/MaxMSP 4.6/Cycling '74/externals/".

If you have previously installed csound~.mxo, make sure that only one copy of
csound~.mxo exists in Max's search path. Otherwise, you may accidently load
  an older version.

If you have prevously installed Matt Ingalls' csound~, be sure to remove
  it from the externals folder.

To check your installation, open the patch csound~_demo.mxt. In the Max
window, you should see the csound~ build date. It should look something
  like this:

    csound~ build date: 2006_09_01

If you don't see it, then you have not installed csound~.mxo properly, or
Matt Ingalls' csound~ is being loaded instead of csound~.mxo.

Mac OSX (Intel)
  1) Download and mount the file Csound5_OSX_Intel.dmg.

  2) Double-click on "Csound 5 for Intel Macs.mpkg". Enter password
      if prompted.

To check your installation, navigate to:

  /Applications/MaxMSP 4.6/Cycling '74/externals/csound/

and open the patch csound~_demo.mxt. In the Max window, you should see the
csound~ build date. It should look something like this:

    csound~ build date: 2006_09_01

Windowx XP

(The following instructions assume that your Csound5 installation
   is located at "C:\Csound\".)

  1) Download and install Csound5.

  2) Download and expand the csound~ archive (tar.gz or zip).

  3) Navigate to the "binaries\WinXP\" sub-directory.

  4) Copy pthreadVC2.dll to one of these directories:

       C:\Windows\System32\
       C:\Csound\bin\
(some other directory listed in your PATH environment variable)

  5) If using version 2006_09_01 or earlier:

      a) Navigate to either 32bit or 64bit directory. Keep in mind, 32bit csound~
           requires 32bit Csound5 and 64bit csound~ requires 64bit Csound5.

      b) Copy csound~.mxe to your MaxMSP externals folder (typically
           "C:\Program Files\Common Files\Cycling '74\externals" or
           "C:\Program Files\Cycling '74\MaxMSP 4.6\Cycling '74\externals").

  6) If using version 2006_11_16 or later:

      a) Take note of the version of Csound you installed. Navigate to the directory
           that matches your installation.

      b) Copy either 32bit or 64bit version to your MaxMSP externals folder (typically
           "C:\Program Files\Common Files\Cycling '74\externals" or
           "C:\Program Files\Cycling '74\MaxMSP 4.6\Cycling '74\externals").

      c) Rename csound~_XXbit.mxe to csound~.mxe.

If you have previously installed csound~.mxe, make sure that only one copy of
csound~.mxe exists in Max's search path. Otherwise, you may accidently load
  an older version.

To check your installation, open the patch csound~_demo.mxt. In the Max
window, you should see the csound~ build date. It should look something
  like this:

    csound~ build date: 2006_09_01

If you don't see it, then you have not installed csound~.mxe properly.
